Let's Talk Genetic Hair Loss

I get a lot of questions in my inbox on social media concerning hair loss. So I decided to do a 10 week series Live on my Instagram and Facebook on Tuesdays discussing this very common condition. Today I want to talk about the most common type of hair loss and that is called Androgenic Alopecia. Now before you freak out, Alopecia is just a scientific term for hair loss okay! There are several types of alopecia, today I will be sharing info about the genetic type.

Genetic Alopecia or "female' or "male" patter baldness is basically hair loss due to your genes. You ever hear the expression. It runs in the family? Well this type of hair loss is an example of that. It's actually the #1 cause of hair loss, and symptoms can start as early as the teenage years.

There is a chemical in our bodies called Dihydrotestosterone hair loss specialist call it DHT for short. As our bodies begin to breakdown Testosterone, it turns into DHT. DHT is a metabolite that travels through our blood stream. This metabolite will attache itself to the bottom of the hair follicle preventing nutrition and oxygen flow. This will prevent your hair's ability to grow or survive.

If detected early there is a great chance of hair regrowth and retention. This type of hair loss is sensitive to me because I find myself in the early stage of this category. Although if you take a look at my hair it's hard to tell. One of the luxuries of having curly hair is the volume and swelling, which gives the appearance of fuller thicker hair.

There is tons of options out here for help with those with genetic hair loss. One of my goals for 2020 is to be more proactive about mine. At times I feel guilty for talking about my minimal hair loss because I have seen clients and have family members who's hair loss is very progressive. Unfortunately they have to wear wigs to cover their hair loss. The earlier you catch it the better chance you have at saving your hair. I'll list a few things you can do if you think you may perhaps be in the circle of hair loss genes.
